Boutonnièred

It felt like time for an actual tiny slice of nature in my jacket buttonhole. And for good measure, a map of Delaware (of all places) in my breast pocket

Barima,

Make me understand something. Exactly what is a boutonniere, is it the buttonhole on the lapel? Or is it the act of putting something in the buttonhole?

Please clarify for me.

Thanks,
Mxolisi

Very kind, Chris. I'm looking forward to a new season greatly

Mxolisi,

The terms 'boutonnière' and 'buttonhole' refer to the floral adornment, although the latter term obviously describes the actual buttonhole sewn into the lapel, also. It's normally held in place by a sturdy loop of thread on the reverse, although this detail today is mainly found on bespoke commissions (as long as the tailor and/or the client are savvy enough to include it) and higher end brands like Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche and Aquascutum Ltd. For this occasion, I used a pin

Hope this clarifies things,

B
